Our country home is near Matata, Bay of Plenty, between Tauranga and Whakatane.

It is a single story house with a distinct wing purpose built for persons requiring convalescent care. Usually your hosts will be present, with their own wing containing bedroom and utilities, but with a shared lounge and kitchen in the centre.

THE HOSTS: Brenda and Larry. Brenda is a retired District nurse who for many years has seen a need for convalescent care in our community, be it post-operation or for respite reasons. Larry is a retired farmer who thoroughly enjoys engaging with visitors.

We can provide a safe, restful, comfortable country environment where you can recover and gather your energy. ACCESSIBILITY: From the driveway the house and immediate gardens are flat for easy access. There are no stairs, just a small lip over ranchsiders onto the patio. If required, we can arrange pick up from wherever you happen to be.

ACCOMMODATION: We have 3 bedrooms available in the convalescent wing; a 4m x 4.5m with a queen bed and immediate access to the outside patio, a 4m x 4.5m with a single and king single beds, and a 5m x 3.5m with an electric positioning king single bed. Each has a chair, wardrobe and desk/ drawers. If you are able to we would prefer you to eat with us in the dining room, however it is no problem to bring meals to your room, and an above-bed table is available.

BATHROOM: In the convalescent wing there is one bathroom with a raised toilet and wheelchair accessible shower (walk-in, tiled shower) and handbasin. There is also a 2nd separate toilet for your convenience. Both toilets have secure grabrails, with a stool available for the shower.

FACILITIES: You are welcome to make use of the entire house, including the large garden. If you are able to negotiate a few stone steps there is a simple bush walkway, and another easy walk to a creek and waterfall. The outdoor areas are beautiful, private, and very good for restoring the soul. If you prefer the indoors, the lounge area has quiet nooks with large bookcase, as well as a television area for movies or music. Hot or cold drinks available anytime of the day ( excepting for alcoholic drinks, BYO).

PET INFORMATION: We have a friendly medium sized pet dog who is smart and learning her manners . We also have a smallish parrot who is free-range and arrives generally for breakfast and dinner. Being a farm/ lifestyle, we also have sheep in the paddock and chickens who roam in the garden during the day. We hope your stay with us will be delightful and restorative for you . As hosts, it will give us genuine satisfaction to care for you and help you navigate this next stage of your life. If you have any specific requirements or questions we are delighted to hear from you so we can decide together if we are able to accomodate you for a short time. We look forward to sharing our home with you.
